15 to 1

In 1999 I had taken part in the Whitaker’s Almanac challenge for the second year and this time I was beaten by Nick Terry who was a well-known winner on 15-to-1 (with William G. Stewart). He told me that the rules were shortly going to be changed and that former contestants so long as they hadn’t won a programme could reapply to go on the series. As soon as I heard this, I put in an application and in early 2000, I was lucky enough to be chosen as one of the first contestants allowed back under the new rules.

In my first series which was Series No 27 and was shown in early 2000, I scraped into the Grand Final at No 9 with a score of 233, but in the next series, No 28, I managed to score the second highest ever score on 15-1 which was 432. This of course gained me the Top of the Finals Board trophy. In the next series (29), I once again won the Top of the Finals board trophy with a score of 383

In series 31, once again I made the Grand Final with a score of 233. and then in series 32, I won the Grand Final once again, having reached the final with a score of 273.

However Series 33 which was recorded in the Autumn of 2002, was my last appearance on 15-1, as although I got to the last three, I was knocked out. I wasn’t too disappointed as I didn’t know the answers to any of the three questions I asked. I only get annoyed with myself if I’ve forgotten an answer that I once used to know.
