Bullseye

I loved the experience of being on television and wanted to repeat it so as soon as I saw “Bullseye” with Jim Bowen in 1982, I persuaded my husband, who was a keen darts player, to apply to go on it with me. We didn’t have a car at the time and knew that possibly we could win one, so he was quite happy to be picked. Unfortunately neither of us realised how nerve wracking he would find the experience and he shook from head to toe while being filmed which didn’t help his darts accuracy one little bit.

We did manage to get to the final, and even though I managed 39 with my three darts, he only scored 12 with his and so we failed to get the 101 necessary to win the car, which turned out to be a Fiesta. At the time, he was so disappointed, but having since heard Jim Bowen on a Channel 5 show, explaining how his producer could get three speedboats for the price of two, and that if anyone got the 101, the chances were that the car would be removed, to be replaced by a speedboat.

After that fiasco, I promised my husband that I would never ever involve him in any of my quiz outings again, and I never did.
